XpressWest, a Federally approved and licensed high-speed passenger railroad, will initially be built on 185 miles new exclusive double track between Las Vegas and Southern California. It will utilize fully electric train capable of 150 MPH speed which will transport passengers in 80 minutes end-to-end. A future system extension 60 miles to the west will provide connectivity to existing Metrolink commuter rail system which services Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties.
Construction on the line is scheduled to start later this year. It is projected to open in 2023. According to XpessWest, the project will create 30,000 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs, and it will remove the 3 million cars from the roads annually.
