2021 update: Overall, WSIP regional projects are 98.8% complete as of December 31, 2020. The $114m Regional Groundwater Storage & Recovery (RGSR) project is due to be completed in Winter 2021. The final project yet to go to construction, the $34m Alameda Creek Recapture project went to bid in December 2020. The $823m Calaveras Dam Replacement projects was completed in 2019.

The current forecasted date to complete the overall WSIP is May 2023, which is the same as the
current approved completion date.

The $4.6 billion Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) reached the zenith of activity in 2012 with 18 projects valued at $2.6B in construction and all major projects launched. Currently, 58 of the 81 WSIP projects have completed construction between California’s Central Valley and San Francisco along the landmark Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System delivering water to more than 2.6 million people in the Bay Area. WSIP regional projects have exceeded more than four million monitored construction man hours. Since the implementation of the WSIP Safety Approach in April 2009, the total lost time incidence rate is at 2.0 less than half the national average for construction programs.
