AeroMetro is the next level of mobility in Guatemala

The Electromobility System AeroMetro is a pioneer ropeway urban transportation project in Central America, meant to connect the two cities of Guatemala and Mixco by Cablevia de Guatemala, S.A., who represents the bidding group that obtained the concession granted by the Municipality of Guatemala.

The municipal concession granted Cablevia the implementation of the innovative urban transport model that includes the design, construction, operation, and maintenance with exploitation rights for 25 years with private investment. The project´s concession has already been approved by the Guatemalan Executive Branch and is currently in Guatemalan Legislative Branch's hands to be authorized so Cablevia can begin the construction process that is expected to last about 2 years.

Doppelmayr is the technological partner of the bidding group, which, as a market leader for over 125 years in ropeway engineering, has built more than 15,100 installations for customers in 96 nations worldwide. It offers a vast experience and support into the implementation process for a successful project.

This electromobility urban transportation will glide over every traffic hindrance on the most condensed vehicular traffic route of Central America and the Caribbean, providing an impressive answer to traffic problems and creating an added value to citizens, moving people from home to the workplace and back, where distance and transit times are increasing day by day.

This transport system, which is perfectly integrated into urban planning concepts, is capable of connecting over 374,000 people daily, and is designed to supply a positive experience to wheelchair users as well as passengers with baby strollers or bicycles. Environmentally friendly and an efficient system at the same time, will allow users to enjoy entirely new perspectives of the cityscape with top comfort and rapid connections while using one of the safest means of transportation in existence.

Guatemalan citizens face not only growing distance between the home and the workplace, but also unregulated urban sprawl with residential structures becoming even more complex, especially the existing traffic infrastructure which capacity has been exceeded, causing the need to implement an efficient urban transportation such as AeroMetro.
